Pleasanton, Calif. – Simpson Strong-Tie, the industry leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, has developed a new, lightweight auto-feed screw driving system for drywall applications, expanding its popular Quik Drive product line. The new Quik Drive PRODW drywall system has a lighter-weight tool body with enhanced durability and ergonomics so drywall installations can be completed more efficiently and cost-effectively.
Builder and contractor benefits of the Quik Drive PRODW drywall system include a collated-screw feed mechanism designed to provide consistent and efficient screw delivery, a self-locking depth adjustment for accurate drive depth and a fully rotatable driver adapter for fastening in hard-to-get areas. Curved, collated strips hold screws away from the tool's nose to prevent scratching or marring the surface of materials, and a hardened-steel feed pawl improves reliability.
Quik Drive auto-feed screw driving systems allow one-handed operation for improved speed, safety and ease of use, and the Quik Drive PRODW drywall system's lighter weight results in less user fatigue and improved driving for fewer delays or wasted screws on the worksite.

Pleasanton, Calif. – Simpson Strong-Tie, the industry leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, has developed a new steel header hanger to support cold-formed steel framing box headers as well as large-flange lay-in headers used in curtain-wall construction. The new SHH steel header hanger is engineered to ease installation by reducing drywall buildup, and screw count has been minimized with extensive component assembly testing.
Common in low- and mid-rise construction of multifamily and commercial building projects, cold-formed steel framing has emerged as a reliable and durable alternative to light-frame wood construction. The SHH steel header hanger is designed to transfer gravity and lateral loads from headers to the jamb studs and to help support the header assembly during installation.
In addition, the SHH steel header hanger has contractor-friendly geometry to reduce drywall buildup with a coped gusset to avoid the bottom track header legs. Extensive testing by Simpson Strong-Tie has enabled a wide array of available hole patterns to accommodate different load levels while minimizing installation costs and reducing screw count.

The SHH6 is manufactured in steel thicknesses of 54 mil (16 ga.) and 68 mil (14 ga.) and is intended for use with 6" (min.) box headers. The SHH3, manufactured from 68 mil (14 ga.) steel, is intended for 3 5/8" or 4" (max.) box headers and large-flange lay-in headers. Screw-hole layouts at the jamb studs accommodate flange sizes of 1 5/8", 2", 2 1/2", 3" and 3 1/2" in addition to built-up jamb configurations. All SHH steel header hangers feature a galvanized G90 finish.

Pleasanton, Calif. – With the new fabric-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) from Simpson Strong-Tie, contractors can effectively repair, protect and strengthen concrete and masonry structures for a fraction of the installed cost of traditional shotcrete repairs that use rebar. The FRCM externally bonded Composite Strengthening System™ combines high-performance sprayable mortar with a carbon-fiber grid that creates a thin structural layer without significantly increasing the structure's weight or volume.
Because of its reduced preparation and installation time, FRCM is in many cases the most economical available solution for adding flexural, axial, or shear strength to a range of structures. The lightweight, sprayable matrix is ideal for application on overhead or vertical surfaces in structures such as tunnels, mines, parking garages, silos, bridges, and other buildings with large surface areas. A single, one-inch layer provides sufficient structural strengthening without substantially constricting tight spaces or adversely affecting facility operations. Further strengthening can be obtained as necessary through the application of additional half-inch layers.
The sprayable, fiber-reinforced cementitious matrix (CSS-CM) is available in 55 lb. (24.9 kg) bags. The accompanying carbon-fiber grid is available in two separate models to suit the needs of any project: bidirectional (BCG) and unidirectional (UCG). Each roll of carbon-fiber grid measures 77 inches (1.95 meters) wide and 164 feet (50 meters) long.
These products and components were tested together in UL Design No. N859, and achieved a four-hour fire rating when subjected to ASTM E119/UL 263 full-scale fire testing.

Pleasanton, Calif. – To provide more options for multi-family construction builders, the new Simpson Strong-Tie® DGH fire wall hanger can now be ordered with a skewed or offset option. This hanger is part of the new DG fire wall hanger series designed for connecting floor trusses and joists to wood stud walls.
All models of the DG fire wall hanger series easily install on a two-hour wood stud fire wall (e.g., Type III construction) during framing. These top-flange hangers feature space to allow two layers of 5/8" gypsum wall board (drywall) to be slipped into place after the framing is complete. The DG/DGH/DGB fire wall hangers have been tested according to ASTM E814 and received F (flame) and T (temperature) ratings for use on one or both sides of the wall. They are listed in Intertek Design No. SST/WPCF 120-01.
"As soon as we released the new fire wall hanger series in July, we immediately turned our attention to developing these two special options. We listened to customer feedback about the strong need to offer solutions for the two most common nonstandard connections they encounter on the jobsite," said Sam Hensen, vice president and general manager for Connectors and Lateral Systems at Simpson Strong-Tie.
All models of the DGH hanger may be ordered with a skew angle of up to 45° or with the top flange offset left or right. The skew and offset options may not be combined.

Application and Installation
The two-component, one-to-one-ratio, epoxy-based anchoring adhesive formula dispenses in a uniform gray color to match surrounding concrete surfaces, and can be easily installed in downward, horizontal, vertical and overhead orientations.
The versatile SET-3G adhesive is designed for dry or water-saturated use conditions with temperatures anywhere between -40°F (-40°C) and 176°F (80°C). The low-odor formula also offers contractors jobsite flexibility with its ability to be installed in dry, water-saturated or water-filled holes in base materials whose temperatures range from 40°F (4°C) to 100°F (38°C).

Pleasanton, Calif. – To lower construction cost and streamline installation time on mid-rise wood construction projects, Simpson Strong-Tie has launched the new Strong-Rod Systems rod-to-steel-beam connector (ATS-SBC). The new, design-based connector forms part of a continuous-rod solution that helps wood-frame structures resist shearwall-overturning forces and uplift forces resulting from seismic activity or wind events.
The rod-to-steel-beam connector has been redesigned to reduce the overall number of rod system components for a simpler, more efficient installation that saves contractors both time and money. The company's engineering support team works with customers to design the most economical rod-run holdown solutions that are compliant with all relevant seismic and high-wind building codes. Among rod tiedown solutions, the Strong-Rod System has the lowest possible deflection holdown values while meeting the structural design demand loads.
The new ATS-SBC replaces the older field-assembled half-cage system with a complete part featuring a rod already affixed to the bearing plate. It also features a weldable plate for attachment to steel beams in the field. Where the previous system comprised seven individual components, the rod-to-steel-beam connector consists of just two.
The rod-to-steel-beam connector is available in six different rod diameters ranging from 5/8" to 1 1/2", all 12" in height. The bearing plate ranges in size from 3" x 3" x 3/4" to 7" x 3" x 1 3/4". Fillet welds – with weld lengths provided by the project Designer – must be used to attach the ATS-SBC to the steel beam according to the project design. Allowable tension capacity for the rod-to-steel-beam connector starts at 13,805 lb. for the smallest model and reaches 82,835 lb. for the largest.
The rod-to-steel-beam connector complements the wood-beam plate (WBP) that was launched in 2016. Available in 10 different sizes, the WBP is used where the rod run is attached to a wood beam, and eliminates the need for more costly isolator nuts and coupling take-up devices. Two SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws (provided with the kit) are installed through the WBP fastener holes and into the bottom of the wood beam to support the self-weight of the bearing plate and rod above, sparing Designers and installers the need for an additional smaller bearing plate and nut on the top side of the beam. This unique connection also provides a fixed point at the very bottom of the rod run, allowing the take-up devices above to address shrinkage of all the wood framing including any from the wood beam itself.
